#UnKiloDeMas – Jah Chango is ready to take the next step

With Jah Chango, the Spanish speaking music world has a new rising star. His music was born from Reggae and hasdeveloped into a Latin-inspired experiment with the potential to fascinate and captivate thousands. Based in Formentera, Spain, the young singer now presents his second full-length studio album #UnKiloDeMas. And this one certainly has some extra kilos to share.

The twelve tracks and two dubs by producer Umberto Echo make an extensive and elaborate piece of art decorated with notonly kilos but tons of love of detail. The musical cast features guests from Reggae to Latin Pop and thereby represents the wide-ranging network behind the Jah Chango family.From a modern Roots Reggae spirit as in “Even If You Fall“ featuring Ras Muhamad to vivacious Rumba vibes on “LaRumba Llego” feat. Maribel La Canija, #UnKiloDeMas has it all. And if that was not enough, the album’s first single “Sofa de Cuero” is featured by no one less than Latin-Rock superstar Pau Donés from Jarabe de Palo. Placing this collaboration on #UnKiloDeMas finally allowed a long-lasting friendship between two musicians to be manifested in the form of an emotionally touching tune and an impressive music video shot in Chango’s home, the island of Formentera.

What is true for the feature guests certainly also applies to the players of instruments who have contributed to this album. From Gentleman’s live band The Evolution comes Frank “Pollensi” Polak on keyboards; Mr Kilombo, who had until recently played for the Spanish Pop-band Macaco, recorded some of the elaborate guitar work on the album, and DJ Panko, who derives from the urban Worldmusic scene of Barcelona and who had extensively worked with Ochos de Brujo in the past, is responsible for the subtle effects and groovy scratches, which make the album sound so contemporary even though it is actually home to a timeless spirit that doesn’t drift off into genre extremes. On the contrary, it stays true to the music Jah Chango is authentically representing.
